A Stuart law firm has filed sex trafficking and RICO claims against the Estate of Jeffrey Epstein, according to a Jan. 26 news release.
The Law Offices of Travis R. Walker P.A. has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of a woman who says she’s a sex trafficking survivor against the Estate of Jeffrey Epstein, The 1953 Trust and related entities, according to the release.
The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, asserts claims under the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, according to the release. District Court locations are in Fort Pierce, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Key West.
The plaintiff, identified only as “Jane Doe,” alleges she was recruited under false pretenses in 2018, transported across state and international borders, and subjected to exploitation within a coordinated trafficking venture, according to the release.
“Our client is seeking the civil remedies Congress created for trafficking survivors,” wrote Walker in the release. “We look forward to the discovery process and to pursuing accountability through the legal system.”
The complaint names additional defendants whose identities are expected to be determined through discovery, according to the release.
Epstein, a wealthy and well-connected financier, in July 2019 was charged with sex trafficking minors. The following month, he was found dead in his cell; his death was ruled a suicide.
